Cancer
is a dreaded disease with no known cure. Early detection with preventive
treatment offers a higher possibility of survival.
There is no cure for
cancer and early detection is the greatest hope that most people have. There
are screening tests that people have been advised to undergo regularly. These
tests are quite expensive but the major insurance companies and some government
programs cover these costs. Cancer is a fatal disease and the only hope of
survival is in the early
detection and cancer prevention treatment. Hence it is advisable to do the
screening tests as advised.
There
is plenty of information about cancer that is available at the various cancer diagnostic centres
as well as in various hospitals around the country. There are many cancer awareness programs that are
conducted to by the government and other groups to help educated the people
about screening tests and preventive treatment that can be conducted.
Cancer
has no particular symptoms by which to help diagnose it. Regular screening is
the only way to catch the disease in the early stages. When the cancer cells
are in the initial stages they can be killed using radiation therapy. There are
different screening tests for the different types of cancer and it is advisable
to have these tests done regularly. The chances of survival of a patient, when
the cancer is detected in the early stages are about 90%.
The
NP screen
test has been formulated especially for early
detection of Nasopharyngeal Cancer. This affects the South East Asian
community popularly and hence the Southern Chinese community in Canada is
advised to regularly screen for Nasopharyngeal
Cancer. It is a simple procedure and a painless test. An oral swab sample
is taken from the back of the throat and sent to the lab for testing. This is a
genetic based test and the results usually take a few weeks.
